Douglas fir, a monumental tree

Dodaj do planera

A magnificent tree grows by the intervening line (known before 1945 as the Haupt-Gestell, i.e. the Main Line). It is Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco), with a trunk circumference of 315 centimeters at a height of 130 cm from the ground. The regulation of the Minister of the Environment mentioned (point 12) on the criteria required for protection as a Natural Monument specifies that this requirement is already met by Douglas firs with a trunk circumference of 250 cm, so our tree can be protected with a large margin. By the way, let's note that the tallest tree in Poland is Douglas fir, "Halina", which grows in the Sudetes and is 59.4 meters high. Because Douglas fir grows fast, it can be expected that in the coming years its height will exceed 60 meters. Only one species of tree in the world grows even larger, the mammoth sequoia.
