Zielona lagoon

In Zielona, which is a district of the small town of Kalety, there is a water reservoir named after the district. In fact, the Green reservoir is defined as two bodies of water.

The smaller of the reservoirs has a history dating back to the 14th century, when, as a result of iron ore mining, an excavation began to be created, then turned into a pond. It was called Kuźniczy Rybnik, and then Zieliński Pond. Until the Second World War, carp were farmed here, and later the task of the reservoir was to keep water for the pulp and paper plants in Kalety. From the 60's it became a recreational reservoir. In the years 1970-71, a second, larger reservoir was built by damming up the Mała Panew dam. Its area is 60 ha, while the smaller - 20. Both reservoirs are a great attraction in the summer. Sandy beaches are conducive to relaxation by the water, attracting both local residents and visitors from slightly further regions to Zielona.

This popular place has a tourist and leisure base, which consists of bungalows, an inn and a campsite. Ponds with clean water, inhabited by a large number of native species of freshwater fish, are also a favourite place of fishermen, who can be found here from early morning, practically every day of the year. In 2008, during the renovation of the embankment and the dam in the retention reservoir, the smaller reservoir was temporarily drained. After refilling it was stocked with rope and carp. After the summer season, when the buzz on the local beaches has subsided, water reservoirs also offer nature lovers the opportunity to observe water birds. With a bit of luck, you can also meet beavers here
