The present church was erected in the years 1714-1715, in the vicinity of the previous wooden church. This church was pledged to be built by Count John Franz de Verdugo when in 1687 he tried to establish a parish in the village, but in 1712 he died and did not have time to fulfill his promise. The temple was finally built of stone and brick by his son, Leopold de Verdugo, for the sum of 6,000 florins. The building was built in the baroque style.
