Expressway S10, running along the edge of the fortified settlement, cuts Lake Wapnica into two equal halves - northern and southern. In early Middle Ages, a fortified settlement was established on an island south of the bridge. Later, probably in the 13th century, a castle was built on the foundations of the settlement and subsequently destroyed in 1338 during an invasion of the Brandenburgian forces. Rebuilt soon after by the Dukes of Pomerania, the castle survived until the next Brandenburgian invasion in 1478 when it was destroyed for the second time, and has remained a ruin ever since.
